| Teratoma | Posted on: 2008-04-27 8:42 AM Ok folks most of you know that the Panda Cup has made a long awaited comeback. From everything that I have gathered it seems it was pretty nice and a good ole time. So here are the basic rules to follow if you so decide to participate. This quest is pretty much an anything goes PK tounament. It will be set up in brackets accourding to the amount of people that join. Please try to mail me ASAP that you are gonna quest so I can have everything ready to go when the time comes. There is only one rule to this quest. Due to the confusion it will cause Pstealing will not be allowed. This is so because of the reputation gains that players receive in arena. Also it may become confusing when it comes to returning the stolen items. Only other rule that comes to mind is NO WHINING. I personally have not had anyone do this in any quests that I have ran so I don't see a problem coming about. Good luck and happy hunting |
| Teratoma | Posted on: 2008-04-30 2:37 PM Just wanted to add something. I've had a few people ask me this question the past couple of days. Once you die your out of the tournament. Think of it as the NCAA tournament of Pkilling :). |
| Crescendo | Posted on: 2008-04-30 3:23 PM when is the tournament? :P |
| Riffe | Posted on: 2008-05-01 12:38 PM My memory blows, but wasn't there another overall aspect that made the competition pretty fair? I recall an element of survival vs the Tower itself that made the Cup fun. This was so lower gen players knew they had a chance because any foolhardy gen 10 could get their ass killed by a tower keeper or some other gnarly beast. I'd imagine if it's merely this brute WWF-style bs, the decked out kids would probably come out on top, hands down. I'm hoping this survival aspect is still a part of the Cup. Just my two cents. | Fluffy | Posted on: 2008-05-01 2:07 PM I could have sworn there were more aspects than PK to the cup, if it's just PK I think you'll just have the top guys decked out participate as Riffe said. Or if its NCAA style I'd lose on purpose since I can't compete with them anyhow, and hope for the participation prize while I run off and do stuff. |
| Teratoma | Posted on: 2008-05-02 3:34 PM I honestly wasn't around for the Cup. I had seen a post on a website and decided to run another one. If you guys have info on things that were in the quest then please mail me so that I can make it as fun as possible. It will be held in Logic's arena and right now is schedueled for May 9th. But seriously if there are things to this that I am leaving out I would like to know so they can be added :). |
| Crescendo | Posted on: 2008-05-03 12:36 PM It was pretty basic really, 1v1 brackets to the top, any items you want you could use...and just slaughter everyone in your way :) |
| Riffe | Posted on: 2008-05-03 1:15 PM I have a few concerns with the Panda Cup if it's merely a 1v1 pk tourney. 1/4 of the player base is stacked beyond belief in terms of gear/item access/gen. This is due to duration of play (last wizlock was what, 2002?) previous victories in quests for prizes and gear, etc. 1/2 of the p.base is in that middle ground of "yeah i kind of get it, but I'm not quite self sufficient." They might also be the folk who quit and come back, etc. This is also the casual type of folk. 1/4 of the p.base is noob. Pure noob. Not "oldbie," but pure newbie. Sounds like a waste of time to me if it's purely 1v1, everyone smacking each other around. I think the Tower was built the way it is for a purpose. It would be cool to see some victory criteria that blends the player tiers together, as well as uses the Tower's many functions. Having the winner come out of top solely because of hitroll/damroll/oedit content merely puts the winnings back into the pockets of those who don't really need it. A few ideas: Use the Tower as a Capture the Flag/Protect the VIP mode Smash Bros. Style -- 2v2 fight (high gen/low gen pairs,) everyone gets two or three "lives." A good demonstration of player synergy. CON: I can see the higher gen merely telling the lower gen to not do anything. Increase the number of NPCs in the tower, creating an atmosphere of man vs. tower vs. man. This way, it's more about navigating the arena, making it a bit more fair across the board. Honestly, the Panda Cup was created back in the days of Pandora, when Tempus was more active, cut-throat, lively and a lot less stagnant than it is now. Unless some significant changes are made, it almost seems like a waste of a nice Spring day. :p Just some thoughts, don't take it personally, R*3

| Deneb | Posted on: 2008-05-03 2:32 PM Lesser players getting left behind has always been an argument of fairness in all quests. Many quests have implemented means of making it more fair. In my opinion, it's fine when it comes to choosing teams or to quests such as the trivia ones. But, when you want to start awarding players who haven't worked as hard leveling or exploring zones for better equipment than others I begin to think that it's more unfair for those players on the top. If you want to push down one of the few quests that are currently going on, it's fine by me. I'm not going to participate in the quest anyway. So, there's one less person to worry about ruining your fun. PS. The tower itself is far from fair. Gravity well rules the day in there. |
| Riffe | Posted on: 2008-05-03 2:58 PM A cool thing that I saw from a random bomb quest weeks ago was the idea of highlighting player participation and action. Though I bet it was a bitch for the questors to run around and do highlights, they gave play by plays and ended up noting cool deathblows, brave bouts and bringing the spotlight to kids with guts. i.e. PlayerA kills PlayerB with a freakin punch. Who would have known! Perhaps throughout the tourney, there could be honorable mentions for cool shit that happens. That would mix it up a bit, varying what comes into the arena (besides a ton of sav_phys and damredux items.) Random thoughts... R |
| teratoma | Posted on: 2008-05-04 6:03 PM ok guys after thinking about canceling the cup, I have decided on a way to make it fair. Gen 6 Level 1 to Gen 10 Level 49 will be a seperate division. Gen 5 Level 49 and below will be its division. This way there is no lower players fighting against the likes of Crescendo and such. |
| Deneb | Posted on: 2008-05-05 1:33 AM Does that mean my gen 5's and lower can compete in that division? |
| Riffe | Posted on: 2008-05-05 2:32 PM Ahh, I like the divisions. Deneb has a good question there too. Can we register lowbies if we have highbies? :p R |
| Deneb | Posted on: 2008-05-05 3:58 PM I hoped that my question implied the fact that gen doesn't always dictate power. I'm just saying that the divisions do not make it completely fair. It should be more like reputation versus reputation (not Tempus reputation). Of course, I wouldn't know how to assign division levels for those without much reputation. How about we just forget about fairness and make up a bunch of different types of ways to fight each other and then run them through. The best, most fun way would be the new Panda Cup (or simply THE way to run PK quests.) -1v1 with tournament brackets -2v2, 3v3 with brackets -player of high standing vs 2 or 3 -clan vs clan -player of high standing vs clan -1,2, or 3 vs imm controlling mob -player+imm controlling mob vs player+imm controlling mob -1v1 with cards (has eq-positions on them) players matched up against each other must remove that position's eq and wear another piece of eq that does absolutely nothing. Just thinking of random stupid stuff here. Who knows, maybe something good will come of it. |
| teratoma | Posted on: 2008-05-06 3:30 PM I like your ideas deneb and I'm going to put some of them into the quest because I think it will add alot of fun to it. Thanks |
| teratoma | Posted on: 2008-05-09 10:26 PM Ok folks the winners of their respective divisions are Crescendo and Blagg. They both had good strategies and used them well. Give them all the credit they deserve. Grats guys |
| Deneb | Posted on: 2008-05-10 1:53 PM congrats |
| teratoma | Posted on: 2008-06-26 10:14 PM Ok folks the Panda Cup is right around the corner. The first or second week of August. The reigning champs Crescendo and Blagg will be defending their respective cups this time around. Hopefully there will be some modifications made to the arena to keep the cheeseball wins down to a minimum. Also the viewing stands will work this time, so you won't have to listen to my shoddy play by play. Also I am considering eliminating the two different brackets and having one large bracket due to lack of interest on the lower gens part. I would like to keep it seperated to keep it fair though. Anyway anything you guys would like to see changed from the last cup just post it on here or mail me your ideas. Thanks :) |
