A Poll! What Race Do You Play (and why) ?
Panzer Posted on: 2004-03-04 8:53 AM
Just taking a "poll"..because the boards have been pretty quiet.

What race do you primarily play, and why?

I tend to choose humans, because they aren't restricted in their class selection, and they get the +2 to their primaries.

But, if I had Panzer to do over again, I would have gone half-orc (maybe even orc) because of the crazy double-movement gain. That would have been awesome to have during my mort days for running programs.

For reference, the races are:

Human Elves Dwarves Half-Orcs Minotaurs Tabaxi Orcs Drow

You forgot Halflings.
Storm Posted on: 2004-03-04 3:07 PM
Halflings, the neglected race... unless it comes to wonton slaughter in their village! (Lobbies for the creation of a halfling champion)

I typically play Humans or Elves. I like humans because I am human, and I like elves because they are supposed to be all magical and stuff. Although if you're a knight named Nocte you'll be too short to behead Dispater.

A pox upon the information contained under the Reference link for classes and races!

The halflings are neglected there as well! I guess it's because they're so small and unnoticable :)

Azimuth Posted on: 2004-03-04 7:26 PM
Well, we can certainly fix that...
Darkesoul Posted on: 2004-03-04 10:10 PM
Elves are nice due to them being sleep resistant, humans stats are easier to max out as a mort though. I choose race mainly on what class i choose to create. Borgs i would definitely go with half-orc and possibly for monk too. Mage i would go human or elven, thief elven or tabaxi. If you could actually stil roll the mort max str supposedly possible for minotaur, id go minotaur if i created a barbarian. and so forth and so on.
Gasraidh Posted on: 2004-03-04 11:00 PM
For any type of primary warrior, i do orc, the movement is a Godsend. (granted one time i did make a halfling barb who somehow got 20 str pretty sure that was a bug extroardinaire)

Casting of any type: elf

Thief? usually drow or tabaxi.

Dolza Posted on: 2004-03-05 10:53 AM
Hmm, Dolza is an elf, i like the higher int and dex, and since i figured i wouldnt get gonzo hps anyway, who cares about the hit to con.

I have human cleric that never gets played.

And Tenser, my mage, is most definately an elf. More int never hurts.

perhaps if there were other bonuses to being the races, however large or small (halfling joke) it would encourage more diversity. although, is diversity a problem on tempus? is one race more predominant than the others?

Panzer Posted on: 2004-03-05 12:19 PM
I do think that there is a lack of diversity, from what I've seen.

I've only ever encountered 1 minotaur: Death.

There seem to be tons of humans, elves (including drow), and even a good number of half-orcs and orcs.

Heartsbane Posted on: 2004-03-05 5:06 PM
nelf is a minotaur :)
Kakorat Posted on: 2004-03-05 9:52 PM
artemis is a minotaur and i have an elf but i just chose that race cause elves are the shit...i dont know all about the extra stuff each race gives :(
Ullysses Posted on: 2004-03-06 5:38 AM
i'd have to say unless your playing a caster, go orc, strenght/con move, if your playin a caster, be it a mort cleric/mage/ be a drow, great bolts, sick saves, drow barb, wouldn't that be somethin
Drom Posted on: 2004-03-06 9:38 AM
Devil. I find the abiltiy to cavort with the lower planes absolutely paramount to my ability to mastermind their eternal conflict.

Plus they have the best beer.

Elric Posted on: 2004-03-07 8:48 PM
I hate tabaxi, so never play 'em. I think a lot of the lesser played races, would get some airing if the classes allowable to race wasn't enforced for the secondary remort class.
Wish Posted on: 2004-03-07 11:05 PM
Turtle. It gives me a nice hard shell to deflect bad vibes, and allows me to waddle around.

* wish *

Panzer Posted on: 2004-03-08 9:58 AM
I would agree with Elric's comment about "unlocking" the restrictions on races after you remort.

After all..if I'm no longer "mortal"...why should I be resigned to the skills that my racial heritage limited me to while I was a mere "mortal".

I've always believe that any race, given enough stubbornness, will, and determination, can become anything they want.

Willms Posted on: 2004-03-17 10:31 AM
Not race, just opinion poll, whats better, a cleric or a mage?I havent decided yet, any thoughts?
Storm Posted on: 2004-03-17 12:28 PM
They're both pretty difficult to play as a mort. I prefer cleric, but for awhile, when I remorted, I was a cleric/mage and that worked out really nicely (granted, I was high enough gen that my maxmana was high enough to not have to worry about running out too much). Either one is a fun and interesting challenge.

Clerics get some nice support spells, such as bless (if you're good), pray, and sanctuary. Clerics also have a decent number of hitpoints.

Mages, on the other hand, have a lot of spells that will help you kill mobs, such as drowsy, blindness, curse, etc. Mages also have a lot of spell ups that will affect your ac, such as blur and invisibility.

Hope that helps!

Willms Posted on: 2004-03-18 10:00 AM
I do enjoy the cleric class, It seems like a fighter/mage. What would be a good remort class for a cleric?
Storm Posted on: 2004-03-18 12:15 PM
I've tried thief, ranger, mercenary, and mage. Thief was a bit tough, but not bad for playerkilling (I was evil... probably a bad idea if you're good because you couldn't wield a weapon to backstab with). Ranger and Mercenary were very good, but my favorite was mage.
