Should the AREAS list have exact directions? | |

Wish | Posted 29 Nov 2006 How useful is the AREAS list? I remember we spent many-an-hour running quest after quest, exploring the whole world, and writing up summaries of each area, but we never focused on exact directions. Some of the directions there are vague, but without an easy accessible map to guide you, I'm concerned the list isn't as useful as it could be. Should exact directions be for low level areas only? Up to mid levels? ALL areas? Whatcha think?

Dehran | Posted 29 Nov 2006 i think exact directions should be available for low and mid level areas. if you're high level and don't the areas best suited for you, too bad! learn! also, perhaps the guide shop could also provide a map with exact dirs for the low level areas it already sells guides for. and it all needs to be readily available to new players. that's all for now. |
Storm | Posted 29 Nov 2006 I don't think the Areas list should include exact directions to any of the zones. I feel like it takes away from the atmosphere of the game. It's bad enough that we have people gossiping, projecting, or hollering directions, and posting them on their clan boards. The exact dirs are there for people if they want them, why make it any easier? |
Cast | Posted 1 Dec 2006 i agree with Storm on this one but i think vision should be taken into consideration here. like say u can see further when ur on a plain. (like a town is a head), or on a grass land, you can see a player or mob easier. (maybe hide doesn't work as good in these places? maybe Areas should give a vague idea of where the zone is. like halflings: south-east of Holy Modrian. etc… |
Deneb | Posted 2 Dec 2006 I think the areas command isn't as useful simply because most of us are content with the zones we already know. Or, perhaps we already know most of them. |
Demandred | Posted 3 Dec 2006 Combination, lowbie areas should have directions, or at least a ways of allowing to get there, signs, etc. The game's going to be new to them anyhow and they're going to have a lot to learn/think about on top of trying to find somewhere to level. Once they get to mid lvl/high level's they can find their own way through areas. Areas right now as it is, or when I saw it was way too cluttered. Trying to find one area in that thing is such a pain in the butt. Maybe have a search function for it, AREAS to try to find what you're going to, or alternatively, just make a bunch of help files on the zones, that way you can just do help halflings or whatever to get the full description in areas without having to muddle through the whole thing to find it. |

Wrath | Posted 3 Dec 2006 You really gotta think about it as a newbie. When yer level 3, have 30 move points, and can barely get anywhere even if you know exactly where you are going, you don't want to do a whole lot of wandering aimlessly. It gets old quick. And newbies aren't always around when lots of newbie helpers are on to holler some directions at em. I think that at least low level areas should give exact directions, or at least really good hints. I personally feel the best solution to this, however, is to use the Tempus website to help newbies out more. Have a newbie starting page, then have an areas page. On the areas page have links to low and mid level zones, complete with vague directions. Then at the end of the vague directions have another link along the lines of, 'Still need help? Click here' or something. Then have it go into detail. The Tempus website is so very under utilized. I have played on MMORPGS and other muds that have comprehensive websites that help out so very much as a newbie. Tempus's help system is good, but it gets so monotonous poring through screen after screen, and embedded help after help. Nothing sucks more than wanting to try out a game and quitting before you even got yer knees wet because yer so frustrated with 'You are too exhausted!' -Wrath Smath |

:P There is a short list in the Acad. guild house of simple places to try out, assuming "they" bother/are aware of the guild board, so in a sense there already is a list of accurate dirs.. Would you rather have your eye fall out at random times, OR have uncontrolable constant drool? |
Eternal | Posted 5 Dec 2006 I think Wrath is right on key. I couldn't of said it any better. |
Eternal | Posted 5 Dec 2006 So ummm Wrath…be the tempus web master?!?! You know you would rock at it =D |
Seren | Posted 10 Feb 2007 Uncontrollable contant drool. |
Bud | Posted 28 Mar 2007 I stumbled on to this, look for directions, so yeah i think the AREAS should show directions! (at least to places i dont already know :) (low-mid would be better than nuthin) |
Hsu | Posted 29 Mar 2007 What if it showed directions for areas you've stumbled across? I figure most people would remember where they went or at least a very good general heading once they've been there. I know i wander around randomly and after visiting some places that i'm not ready for at that moment i would try to go back a few levels later but cant find my way again hahaha. |
TOWER | Posted 29 Mar 2007 How difficult would it be to add a skill to the base skillset (riding, swimming, etc) that would be MAP. If you made it to a certain zone you could type map and that zone's directions would be added to your character's maplist. Then again, if you made it there once there's a big chance you already know the directions…but it would encourage exploration by allowing you to find your way back again. |
Azimuth | Posted 30 Mar 2007 Actually, map objects that give you directions to a specific place when you look at them are in development. You'll be able to buy them in shops. |
