Players who idle | |

Red | Posted 9 Oct 2010 One thing that bothers me is that we have certain players who constantly idle their characters. This makes it difficult for other players to load equipment in which that idler is wearing. Going afk for an hour or two is fine - I'll load it in a few hours. If you're here, it's fine - I'll load it tomorrow. But don't leave your character on for days or weeks doing absolutely nothing. A remedy to this problem is disconnecting players who haven't moved in, let's say, 4 hours. Or, make EQ load even if that item is currently in the game. I don't really like this idea since it would make EQ too easily loadable, but I don't see any other solution to rid of those pesky idlers. |
Deneb | Posted 9 Oct 2010 Equipment not loading because of existing copies in the game are just part of an equipments' difficulty to load/its rarity. Something set by the builder of the zone the equipment is in. Players who idle for long periods of time aren't idle in the eyes of Tempus. Not moving isn't a good enough way to determine someone's idle status. Players who idle and wear equipment add to their rarity. Something that I don't think builders usually consider when setting how rare their equipment will be. I don't think disconnecting players who are idle should be done. Pesky idlers have the right to be logged on, the policy doesn't say anything about idle length because Tempus has it's own built in counter measure even if it is a simple one. But, I do find it annoying that I can't load a certain piece because someone who's been on Tempus for weeks is wearing it. Perhaps making worn and carried objects by players who are in a house be not considered to be in the game, just as if the object were on the floor of the house. |
Red | Posted 9 Oct 2010 That sounds like a good plan. But what about those who idle in their clanhouses? |
Gneissic | Posted 10 Oct 2010 I like the idea of having a player who idles in their house have their eq count as if they were on the floor of the house. I know players in my clan that would start idling in the clan house save room if that happened. |
Bushido | Posted 12 Oct 2010 i remember a good while back people getting frozen for idling like that. there are some players who never log off unless they finally dc and forcerent. and yes it is extremely annoying when trying to load eq when the person who has been logged on 24⁄7 for like a month and 90% of the time they arent even at the computer. |
Deneb | Posted 12 Oct 2010 I think they were frozen because they idled while having spell-up triggers active. Which, meant they were violating the "Scripting and Botting" regulation under 'Policy'. So, I suppose that they should be kicked off. But, how do we do that? |
