Mercenary revamping? | |

Ronin | Posted 26 Mar 2004 What are these rumors upon the wind that there are some changes coming to the Mercenary class? Is this true? Is there any scrap of knowledge that the gods might see fit to share with us (a teaser, if you will, regarding some of the changes/skills/etc)? Thank you, in advance. Ronin the Wandering Warrior |
Gasraidh | Posted 26 Mar 2004 Word on the street is, there is work being done on a new skill set for mercs, to set them apart from other classes |
Azus | Posted 5 Apr 2004 I always wondered why hamstring was moved to the mercenary class. Arguably due to the lack of "mercenary" skills, it was needed in order to make the class worthwhile to play. If new skills are indeed being added, maybe it would be time to lobby for replacement skill(s). Hopefully mercenaries will get the gun skills they deserve :) and if that does happen maybe move hamstring to a different class, like ranger or something |
Gasraidh | Posted 10 Apr 2004 you are suggesting they drop hammy from the Merc list? no way! hammy is, as of right now, the only thing that makes merc merc. if they drop hammy it's going to suck |
Nothing | Posted 11 Apr 2004 Heh, not to offend, but that's a rather asinine statement. Hamstring is definitely NOT what makes merc merc. Hamstring is a rather recent addition to merc, in case you didn't know. I played a merc to gen 10, twice in fact. Neither time did I have hamstring, and neither time did it suck. Before the last wizlock my gen 10 merc was a rather powerful player. I was easily able to solo all of hell, and just about anything else I wanted to. If you think hamstring is the only useful skill that mercs have, then you really need to try some of the other skills in different settings. Hey! Maybe you should even try them multiple times! ;) –N |
Elric | Posted 14 Apr 2004 Personally I would like to see the skill garotte moved to a higher level, and the damage that it does be increased. As it stands at the moment it relies heavily upon the mercenary to be infiltrating, and yet you get infiltrate AFTER garotte ;) I wouldn't mind seeing the hit probability increased with it as well. Even infiltrating you don't hit with it very often. |
Panzer | Posted 15 Apr 2004 I agree with Elric. I saw that on the skill list and thought "huh?!". Then, after getting a merc up to that level…found that it pretty much sucked as a skill because you couldn't ever really hit with it (even with a -significant- bonus to your hit roll). |
Gasraidh | Posted 18 Apr 2004 Nothing: GASP! YOU JERK I"M SO OFFENDED! hehe just kidding, actually i was completely unaware hammy was a recent addition to the merc list, and I know very much about wizlock. However, If merc loses hammy, i'm going to cry. |
Azus | Posted 19 Apr 2004 mercenary makes for a very fine secondary class, but it would be nice to see some more gun-toting skills. If guns were added to the Tempus world that would be on par with the current melee weapons like the Acidic blade or the rose-star disc or short-hafted warhammer, then a lot of interesting possibilities could arise. It really would be nice to see guns and gun-related skills to be developed as a viable alternative to the current traditional melee weapons currently in the game. |
Gasraidh | Posted 19 Apr 2004 ack let me rephrase, i DON'T know much about pwipe. |
Craedric | Posted 31 May 2004 I'd definately like to see the merc revamped. How about fixing shoot so that you dont have to type Shoot "x" "y" every time whilst in combat. If your actively fighting something, why should u have to say Shoot Gun (target)? why not just "shoot"? Also, Guns do need revamping. How about on 2 handed guns a Bayonet, or in otherwords, when using the gun in close combat, its as if your duel wielding? maybe make this a remo skill, and make it so that the weapon u apply as a bayonet has to be less then 3⁄4 of the gun your holding? This would most certainly help with the close combat aspect of a merc. This might also help the problem with guns not bieng on par with melee weapons. Just a thought Craedric the Beautiful Fool |
Mina | Posted 20 Jun 2004 hey nothing… you were no where near a normal persons merc.. =P… the good old days you and me soloing githy every hour =P |
Riverwind | Posted 24 Jun 2004 I love merc but it always confused my why there were no skills available over level 39 … |
Merriam | Posted 18 Jul 2005 I had a thief/merc, and I enjoyed it. Githyanki fortress was so fun for me, because I could infilitrate it (figuratively and literally) and take out the entire fortress one-by-one. I think that's no longer possible, but it was one of the funnest aspects of the game for me. Hell for my Ranger/Phyz and Githyanki Fortress for my Thief/Merc. Both ruined now. Oh well.
