Lysolchip | Posted 18 Oct 2004 Something that's really bothered me about the balance of classes is that there is so much more sav_spell around than there is sav_psi or sav_phyz. Speaking from experience, a mage's drowsy, word stun, and spell downs are pretty useless against other players, but a Phyz's temporal dilation will usually land right away. A lot of this is because the past was created first so there's a lot more equipment with sav_spell, and a lot of it is because of the enchant/vestment system giving sav_spell but not sav_psi or sav_phyz. To help remedy some of this, I think it would be cool if phyz's were given an equivalent to enchant and if borgs were given an equivalent to magical vestment. It would give the same amount of AC, but instead of adding sav_spell, it would add sav_psi and sav_phyz. For example, I mentioned this in another post, but borgs could have a skill called upgrade, which would be like magical vestment, working on any item that's type device or electronic (much like how vestment works on cloth, leather, or flesh). Similar to vestment, it would add -10 armor, and -6 sav_phyz and -6 sav_psi. Also, with the power of bards, I think enchant and vestment should be changed to give sav_spell and sav_song. In other words, past classes would give saves for the past classes and future classes would give saves for future classes. |
Elric | Posted 19 Oct 2004 That's what I was saying towards the end of my marthon bard post :p I still think a mages greater enchant should simply be changed to add the saves into the equation. A traditional mage in all other fantasy settings would simply not allow themselves to be at such a tremendous disadvantage versus other "spell casters"; they would research new spells or modify existing one to provide resistance. The back story of Tempus even hints at the conflict between the future and past "spell casters". To my way of thinking it simply makes sense. |
