Skills (Specificly Impale)
Tereus Posted 28 Jan 2006

I was fooling around in the arena and realized something that does not make much sence. I have tested this with a few differant people and in every single case my taget was able to do more damage with a punch or kick compaired to impale.

How could this change? Should a impale do more damage? Help file states about doing severe damage. I was not able to do more then 60 damage to a standing target. If the target did not have any damage reudtion the most damage delt was around 90-100 damage. In many cases, even with stoneskin, lattice, very good ac, and sanc, a punch was able to do anywhere from 100-200 damage.

Idea for imapale. Impale someone with a weapon you don't want to keep such as a small dagger bought at a store. After impaleing a target the dagger would stick into a certain postion. Each postion would do something a little differant. In vital areas such as body and head it would do more damage. Parts like legs, would reuduce dex, in arms reduce str and so on. Perhaps face would be -cha.

Some other things I have talked about with others would be the following. Impale a taget for a decent ammount of damage and then they would bleed from some type of wound. This would work like a hamstring except it would not ground the target. Any ideas….

I think that mabey using a two-handed piercing weapon should allow you to do more damge when you impale. Of course finding such a weapon could prove nearly impossible. However that is not the point, try using a spear or something it should make more difference.

Tereus Posted 27 Feb 2006

Yea, tried, even if it times the damage by 3 it still doesnt do as much as a punch ;( With a two handed weapon impale seemed to do a little bit more damage. This is with damageroll above 80 too may I add.

Nervegas Posted 28 Feb 2006

Huh, well in that case I would guess that the skill just doesn't do much damage. Which is unfortunate, it should at least do more damage than a punch. I mean honestly, you do more damage punching someone than trying to shove a spear through their chest? I'm sure that our lovely administration is working on it, or at least it is on the list.

I think you have +punch equipments and no +impale equipments and that's why u get more damage on punch, i think…

Brywing Posted 3 Mar 2006

Isnt there +impale on condoms in shade? :D

Cast Posted 6 Mar 2006

can females wear condoms?

This is where I get upset. Unlogical post that have nothing to do with the facts. +punch eq will not increase damage by as much as you think. Most classes get punch before level 10. Imaple is a skill in the level 40 area. Besides, +effects on any skill just makes it that you learned it better. There is a max on this too. If you don't have the skill punch and you get a item with +125 punch. If course your punch will do more then before you even had the skill because +125 punch has now given you the skill punch to the fullest level you can practice it and beyond. For example, my knight has practiced behead to the fullest. If I wear -behead eq my behead may have a 2% less of a chance on hitting you and may do about 10 damage less. Out of 1400 damage I don't think 10 damage is a big deal. Even if I had +125 punch on my gauntelts it still shouldnt do as much as a impale.

I figure, maybe it's true that impale sucks. I feel the same way about a lot of skills… Out of all the thief skills, I only learn maybe 14 each gen. If you're going to complain about realism, why not argue that scream should be an area attack? If a bard screams, everyone in the room should get blasted (including the bard). Being a fantasy game, some things don't reflect reality and are "unlogical." If you don't like impale, don't spend the money to practice it. If you happen to find a 50 average dam piercing weapon and have 100 damroll, I'm sure impale will do a lot of damage. If you still think punch is better, just don't use impale.

Caden Posted 12 Mar 2006

It's fun to be off topic :o

Just to jump in about the whole scream being an area attack and that it's not logical to have as a diretect single attack,

Bards are able to control their pitch and direction to a very acute range, for instance the technology that allows for a beam of sound to hit a single person out of a crowd with whatever noise is desired, and the person next to them will not hear it – for instance… if Lifeline was at white trash wonderland and i held the plate directing the sound, and i blasted him with the sound of bossie in heat, he'd go completely buck-wild and frantically look in every-which direction in a desperate search, asking others near-by, "OMG Where is she!?!?"… and probably get violent with those who are not hearing it, as he would think their lying to him.. that they really know where those sweet supple utters of glory are.. {/}{}{}!

As far as impale, two_handed in the right hands used to make a difference, i remember testing it with one of those stock daggers from the weaponsmith in mod vs a supersweet dagger and copious amounts of damroll, and actually being able to randomly do more with the stock dagger.. you can never know the other side effects of a skill thou :p

Tereus Posted 14 Mar 2006

Good point San, however impale should be something you want to practice. and I have 100 damroll and I also used a 2handed weapon with near 50 avg dam. Punch still did more. The end.

Caden Posted 14 Mar 2006

Impale seems to have been left in the dust..

Any qualms to upping the damage of impale and tossing in a few side affects, as well as giving the ability to the thief class(since they normally are considered dagger wielding{shiv in the gut!})?

As far as damage potential, greater than it is now..

Also - adding in a side (of your opponent) effect, minus to dex per landed impale (-1 per, max of 23.. or so? {gen level})?

Tereus Posted 23 Mar 2006

Sounds right on par!

Demandred Posted 27 Mar 2006

hahaha. I remember back in the days when there was Trisk and Strael… Trisk emotes does the FUCK dance. Strael asks him how to do it, Trisk says impale self and strael kills himself.

Heartsbane Posted 28 Mar 2006

Word. The chronicles of Trisk and Strael were neverending. My favorite was Strael trying to PKill Trisk, getting a Killer flag, thinking he was safe in HS, and getting owned and full looted. Word.

Tereus Posted 13 Apr 2006

LOL It was even better watching clan Dagger destroy Forsaken.

Rahvin Posted 16 Apr 2006

Hah, forsaken. What a funny clan.
