Hilt Strike?
Tereus Posted 17 Apr 2006

[hilt strike]

Class/Level: Ranger - 30

While wielding a weapon, a skilled ranger can make good use of the hilt by slamming it into their opponent. This could cause different types of damage to several spots on the body. In rare instances the target could be left knocked unconscious.

Usage: hilt strike

Example: hilt strike Lysolchip

The way it would work.

Dex would play a key roll in order to land the attack.

Damage roll, strength, and weapon choice would consider damage delt.

Random spots would be targeted. Example Below:

Some type of code allowing hilt strike to never to severe damage.

Should be about equal to a barbarian’s strike attack. Nothing like a power move such as cleave or behead. You get the drift.

Erekose slams the hilt of the Acidic Blade into your neck! (Would cause damage only)

Skeeter slams the hilt of his weapon into your legs knocking you down violently! (Would cause damage and knock you down)

Moonriver slams the hilt of the Mover of Mountains over your head knocking you unconscious! (This would knock you out for a moment and cause confusion)

That would be cool to have it mimic the hilt strike-y thing that the Holy Defenders and cityguards do when you fight with them. Give ya a little hilt strike and then drag you off to the jail. I don't think Rangers have any good sleeper moves…though I could be mistaken

That sounds pretty cool to me too. I like the idea of an attack that has more than one affect randomly. Maybe different armors on the different parts can affect the probability of happening. For example, a spiked silver helm on head will protect better against head strikes than a leather cap. Maybe if it does happen to destroy that item, it does extra damage, or adds a different affect, for example if a neck strike breaks the neck eq, it can stun the opponent. If it breaks face eq, it adds blindness and vertigo.

One problem I can see with this is that weapons aren't classified as type of weapon, but what type of attack it does (slashing, stabbing, etc). Because of that, a slashing weapon like rose-star disc, which doesn't have a hilt, will still be able to hilt strike.

I think that skill is too good to be a lvl 30 skill, maybe gen 2-4 remort skill, with all of those great effects, lvl 30 seems pretty low dont u think? dont get me wrong, i love the skill, but yea… i think either the lvl or gen can be tweaked a little.

Good point Cast. I think it should be a remort skill. Maybe level 30 generation 8 or 9. Could be a high gen skill. Something to look forawrd to. I also think since Rangers are masters with there weapons, why not allow them to have a few small effective ways to use them. Other then second weapon and sweepkick. However, again for a balance of the game, Rangers are defensive and should not have a powermove. Hilt Strike should have a max damage cap. I would est. around a 300 damage cap with some nasty effects.

no more ranger skills, ever.

Anyone else like that idea of a hilt strike? I know one thing, rangers make alot more sense now that their elemental branding last longer.

Tereus - "A Good point Cast. I think it should be a remort skill. Maybe level 30 generation 8 or 9." If this were to be implemented, high gen is definitely out of the question. Being such a random skill means it's unreliable and , thus, reducing it's usefulness.

"I also think since Rangers are masters with there weapons, why not allow them to have a few small effective ways to use them." I'll respond to this with this: "The Ranger is a person of the natural world, a dweller of the forest." In my opinion, barbs are more of a "master of weapons" with their current skill set. And, according to the ranger's help file, rangers are just that. Nothing to do with weapons. Of course, they wield them…just like any mage would do the same.

To sum up, I can still see rangers using a skill of such caliber. Though, if you wish to make a ranger only skill (gen skill/spell) then it should be something that only a ranger can do. Can't you imagine a knight doing the same thing? I can. Holy Defenders do it all the time.

Your right, you could see other classes do this…
