Magic VS. Strength | |

Cast | Posted 24 Apr 2006 Here's what i think the classes should be like: Take away the magic class's AC, and make their magic more powerful. in all of the other RPGs (online and offline) magic classes are extremely weak, basically, once they get hit, they are basically as good as dead, but their's magic is so powerful, they can easily drop almost any mobs in as short amount of time without getting hit. (mages in this case, will be able to summon weak mobs to distract and block their enemies) they are also able to choose the indivisual targets to attack as well. (like not attacking someting is the room.) and Worrior classes can tank and has incredable speed and all, but can only attack mobs(or players) that are beside them. everytime damage is dealt, there's a 0.5 second of lag, this way player can do the hit and run thing. (this is also the reason that mages die more often, since mages like to attack more than one mobs at the same time, and once you get hit, ur basically dead. this reminds me of something else that i would like to see changed in the future in this mud, when a player dies in tempus, they loose everything they are carrying (with the exception of protected items), but i think this is not fair, because if ur in a heavilly mob populated place, then when u die, u basically lose all of ur eq and item that ur carrying. what i would like to see is that we can have the player lose 1⁄3 of their inventory or or 4 items from their inventory, if 1⁄3 is less than 4, and 20% chance of droping an eq, that way, death will be more acceptable. basically when the two classes go against each other, the only way that the mage can win, is to run, cast spell, worrior get 0.5 second lag from damage, run, cast spell, etc…. the advantage of this is that it makes the game harder and more challenging, but the downside to this is that i can't figure out how to get the distance thing to work… since i typed all these, i guess i'll show it to u guys and see what u guys think. Tower | Posted 24 Apr 2006 The casting from different room might be an interesting remort skill. Gen 2 mercs get the snipe skill which you can shoot someone as long as they are in your line of sight, maybe it could be similar to that. And while we're at it, I have another magic spell idea. If someone casts on you now, at least the way I believe it works, it take your sav_spell number and you get x% change of the spell hitting you and 100-x% chance of it missing you or failing. Maybe, and I'm imagining a mirror shield or something like that, you could have a 1% change that your armor would reflect the spell back at the caster. Magic is a wild, untamed beast…true story. |
Cast | Posted 1 May 2006 o great, now everyone is against mages now. but i still think magic users should be able to put a distance between them selves and their target, first, because u won't be able to be able to mutter spells when ur busy hitting the enemy with ur weapon, and second, even if u do happen to cast the spell, let's say lightning bolt, how can u make sure that the lightning will strike something just a step in front of you? Distorted thoughts |
Kitano | Posted 4 May 2006 Well, it also doesn't make much sense that I can Annihilate a monster 8 times in a second with a 20 pound blade. Or that I can behead a monster 5 times without killing it. There's a lot of things in this game that don't make much sense, but that's the nature of games. If you look at the game for what it is, a text based MUD, I think the spell casting system is fine. If you want something that distances you from enemies, you've got manashield. It keeps them from hitting you until you run out of mana. |
Caden | Posted 4 May 2006 "Well, it also doesn't make much sense that I can Annihilate a monster 8 times in a second with a 20 pound blade. Or that I can behead a monster 5 times without killing it" Don't forget when trying to rational reality vs playa-dollah-billah-ty, (playa·bili·ty n - of old middle english fame - - for those who are Merriam styled jokingly challenged) remember that a 25 str. would make Arnold Schwarzenegger (not the crusty guy that he is now, but the roided-up monster that he was)look like complete "girly man". As for swinging a blade at a uber buff mob, like a lord of hell for example, sure they're tough, skin like solid steel and the like, it'll take a bit to soften them up. "because u won't be able to be able to mutter spells when ur busy hitting the enemy with ur weapon, and second, even if u do happen to cast the spell, let's say lightning bolt, how can u make sure that the lightning will strike something just a step in front of you?" .. Were talking about concentration and control that makes Albert Einstein look like he has ADD, and eats lead paint chips while riding a mechanical bull … |
