Movement in general for classes.
Deneb Posted 7 May 2008

I was thinking about spell casting type classes vs warrior type classes and what makes them so much more appealing when it comes to secondary class choices. Then I thought about rangers again and how they're suppose to have "good footing". Or, "light on their feet" and anything else you can think of. But, what does that mean when it comes to walking in Tempus? For me, it doesn't mean much at all. My mage walks at almost the same speed as the rest of my chars and almost the same for the rest of you too. So here's my new thought:

(If this idea does get some positive attention from the implementors or imms in general, some of you may hate me even more than you do now.)

Certain classes movement waitstate will be increased to a noticeable point. For example, my thief is fast and agile so his movement waitstate is much less than my clunky knight's.

Here's just a compilation of suggested movement waitstates for each class:

  1. Cleric – Very slow – 2.75s

  2. Knight – Slow – 2.25s

  3. Mage – Moderate – 1.75s

  4. Ranger – Very fast – 0.75s

  5. Thief – Very fast – 0.75s

  6. Barbarian – Fast – 1.25s (x0.75 waitstate multiplier, when berserk)

  7. Monk – Fast – 1.25s (zen of translocation has a chance to reduce waitstate to 0 seconds upon moving)

  8. Bard – Moderate – 1.5s

  9. Mercenary – Fast – 1.25s

  10. Physic – Moderate – 1.85s

  11. Cyborg – Slow – 2.0s (reconfigure can tie into this, lose ac/damroll/hitroll for x0.5 waitstate multiplier)

  12. Psionic – Slow – 2.0s

What do y'all think?

Deneb, To clarify, are you suggesting that everytime my knight walks somewhere to go to a zone that each step will take him 2 seconds of lag to accomplish? Now that wouldn't be a bad idea as far as realism and if it was when you were walking. It could also encourage the use of mounts. But when you are flying it sort of levels the playing field for everyone because you are just floating through the air.

Assuming that you have no speed, then yes. But, you have haste and I'm sure most people do.

I do realize that it's a suggestion for a drastic and most probably a undesirable change. I wasn't planning on for a more realistic touch; the idea was simply to deviate class agility from one another. The way class agility stands now is ranked in three tiers:

  1. Monk

  2. Cyborg

  3. Everyone else

In my opinion probably lies with the rest of yours; it doesn't need to be changed. Yet, when I think about it, it seems really silly to me.

Just bear with it for a moment and imagine how other skills can tie in with this. For example, if mounts were more readily accessible then being a knight would actually be nice compared to some other classes in the sense that you could move around a lot faster than them.
