Magical Binding
Aconite Posted 17 Nov 2003

I think this would be like Holy Binding for Mages. It would restrict the mob and make it so they couldn't cast spells, Divine or Magical, sucks to be you clerics! Maybe it could be called "Mute" or something where they wouldn't be able to utter the magical words nessicary to cast. That way it wouldn't be able to affect psionic and physics who don't use words to cast magic, rather their mind and the physical world. Just some ideas!

why don't we just make mages all have 125 damroll and 125 hitroll and -400 ac. Seriously, mages are already pretty damn powerful, let's not tip the scale.

Ikorrel Posted 29 Feb 2004

do mages really need damroll? i doubt that they heavily rely on their weapons to deal damage but their spells. that reminds me, there should be a stat that determines spell damage (damroll for weapon damage, hitroll for weapon accuracy, etc.) intelligence is too broad of an idea

Well, most MUDS that I've played do have some kind of "silence" spell.

These types of spells that I've encountered do silence the caster so that no spells, speaking, etc can be uttered.

Kind of hard to "get off" on a mob sometimes, and if you fail, they always auto attack you.

Only the Physics and Psionicists wouldn't be affected..they don't use verbal components :P~

but if there's a silence spell, then there should be something like that the disables the psion or phyz. like mind blast, or IQ 0. it would make things more fun, but also make leveling harder for no physical attackers.

Taint!

Brywing Posted 6 Feb 2006

why would leveling need to made harder for psionic or phyz…

Narcissus Posted 7 Feb 2006

Be careful what you wish for. A mute spell is a double edged sword.

Honestly, it really wouldn't help the mage as much as it would be a tool to hurt the mage. The majority of damage done by mobs, even mage mobs, are done through attacks or skills rather than spells. When they do cast spells, the mage has anti-magic shell after not too many gens.

This doesn't hold true for mage player characters, which rely heavily upon spells to drop their opponents.

But I'm fine to go along with those who can't think things through and say lets not implement this. It'll make mages too powerful, yeah, that's it, sounds good. My vote for no mute!
