Dual Wielding
Red Posted 14 Jan 2010

For those that don't know, when you dual wield, unless both weapons weight less than 6 pounds, there is a half rule. The secondary weapon must weigh 12 the weight of the primary weapon.

While I believe there should be some rule, the logic behind this rule is questionable. Why is it that you can wield an 18 pound weapon as your primary and a 9 pound weapon as your secondary, but not two 9 pound weapons in each hand?

It's true…

Well, you could always densify one of them..

Deneb Posted 11 Jul 2010

Suggestion time!

Change the rule:

Weight limit for single wielding is strength - 5. Weight limit for dual wielding is strength + 5. Weight limit for double handed weapons is strength + 10. When dual wielding, the primary weapon must weigh more than the secondary.

So if your strength is 25…you can single wield a 20lb weapon, dual wield two 15lb weapons or 17lb and 13lb or etc., or wield a 35lb double handed sword.

Tada. No more goofy half-weight logic. Although, it probably has some other issue too.

Besides all the weight problem, dual wielding isn't all that great.

Sounds good. Additionally, I would suggest that the efficiency of the weapons are increase when using two of the same weapons for dual wielding. For example: two runics should give better results than say, a runic and a spider fang. (assuming they have equal stats)

Not that important, but we should address this goofy skill.

Weapons, in general, are absurd.

Why can you have 6 damroll on a one-handed weapon, and use two of them for 12 damroll, but not have a two-handed weapon that has 11 or 12 damroll – or even 13?

The system for handling combat attack speed is also incredibly complex for no reason. As a result, weapon weight is an important factor to attack speed. Allowing dual wield for any weapon weight might not lead to an increase in damage.

Perhaps having unique dual wield required remort skills would help improve dual wielding. For example, an advanced parry skill similar to shield mastery.
