Ranger
Drystan Posted 6 May 2014

I always thought entangle was a pretty nifty spell but pretty limited. Rangers get throw, leather working and metal working. Rangers are pretty resourceful in my opinion. So… what if Rangers were able to convert metal/cloth/leather/silk type items into a net using their blacksmithing hammers or needles. Then throw it at a mob entangling them. Mob would break free faster from a tattered piece of cloth and take longer if he used a piece of mithril mesh. Sounds fun to me.

Would be a curious skill to use on a single enemy. Would the victim break free automatically after first hit? If not you can really hit em with multiple power moves! Does Ranger have a power move?

Sounds dang complicated, that does. I've been thinking, the "call something" spells for ranger get you a puny creature that pretty much gets killed pretty dang fast. They're much worse than the conjure elemental spell for mage, and conjure ele is for level 22 and call predator is level 41! Plus, you can't even make more than one! That's pretty unfair…

Or maybe because I'm a Ranger… :P

Brywing Posted 7 Jan 2015

A net skill sounds fun. Here's a version that would probably be easier for the coders to implement.

1) You get "Throw Net" as a ranger only skill that essentially is like an accuracy gauge, the higher the skill, the more accurate the throw (Those who don't have the skill can't use nets). For crafting nets, it wouldn't be a skill at all but you bring specific materials to a mob that only rangers can access/interact with. That mob crafts the net for you.

2) The much, much, more complicated part for coders would probably be the code that restrains the mob/player.

This skill would absolutely have to be a remort skill if it held mobs or people for longer than the first hit.

Call predator is indeed fairly weak.

The code is actually very easy. The balance is the hard part. Coders have learned not to move the cheese.

Perhaps a Bola skill, or carrying and "throwing" a plant could enable entangle to work indoors.

This will improve the ranger class.
