Thoughts from a newbie | |

Ludlow | Posted 6 Jun 2004 Different people have different definitions of what a newbie is, I'll just say that I still feel like one in many ways, even though I am Gen 1 Lvl 42 in my main character. I've been on Tempus for about 3 months. The Lands of Tempus represent a great asset for players to explore and discover, and that is a great draw of the world to me. It is why I have stayed around so long. I think it would also draw new players in as well. If it could be explored safely. I've been targetted by PKing and PStealing 5 times in the last 2 weeks. 3 times in combat zones. It's not safe for me to leave my clan anymore so why should I bother logging in to Tempus if I can't pursue my favorite activities here? Part of the problem is I use ssh to access Tempus, so I don't have access to triggers and all the other neat tools that are packaged in the Mud Clients. And you know what I wouldn't change that. I believe I get a better role play experience this way. Example: Ask me directions on how to get somewhere and I use landmarks and room names as my markers, not some string of letters like [3ws12wnenw3n;open door] which is copy/pasted from the client. But since I don't have the triggers I am toast to any player that is using them, I can't react at the speed of the client. The shear randomness of PK is part of what bugs me, no warning. At least in Bushido a Feud Announcement was required before you could PK someone. So what if the target decides to cower at home? Isn't that a punishment right there? My thoughts are that PK and PS represent a dysfunctional society in Tempus. It drives away anyone who isn't interested or is incapable of competing in the Kill or Be Killed world that the professional PKers love. The arena and the various PK quests should provide enough outlet for those desiring PK. Why does the whole world need to be set that way? PK kills the Role Play. I suppose the question for the Immortals is, what is more important to you, the RP or the PK? They ARE mutually exclusive is the general world. If you are wondering where all the good new players are, I believe they are somewhere where the only people they have to worry about are the mobs. |
Craedric | Posted 7 Jun 2004 I have an idea for the Tempus community - Leave Ludlow Alone - (lla). Ludlow is a kind, helpful, and great player for newbies to get to know as he helps people get settled into this MUD. Although he claims he is a newb, he is actually one of the more learned player on Tempus - not in the aspects of the game, (no offence meant ludy, i'm no 1337357 either) so much as in understanding common laws of decency, such as help newbies who were hunting in the wrong zone and killed, helping newbies find where they are supposed to go, and being a general gentleman to those with less experience. for Ludlow understands that he was also in such a situation, and so he tries to help other people out. The fact that such a kind person should be forced to live in his house all day is a disgrace to the members of tempus. Just the (not as humble as usual) humble opinions of - Craedric the Beautiful Fool |
Butthead | Posted 8 Jun 2004 the problem with your thoughts about getting pkilled with triggers is completely invalid. most of the time pkilling takes place with aliases, not triggers. Having triggers only adds delay, and allows the person who you plan to kill some time time to get away. |
