affected by age this might help
Drakam Posted 17 Sep 2005

ok well in the past people have sought out to be young again, with that in mind why not have something to reverse age…

As we all know age affects how big your tick is at later gens, that extra 10 mp or hp might just save your @$$ if you know what I mean, so why not make a potion of youth or a bottle of water from the fountain of youth.

have it work as a % of your age like 200% or a age on it like a potion makes you 100 years younger, and sell it in the qp shop for like 1 qp or even have it load somewhere in heaven.

Just an idea

I think it's a wee bit unfair that age is what it is. I cryogenically froze Maxwell for almost three years, and when I returned, my mid-20's physicist was now 225 years old–and a human! I notice that I get poor hitpoint and lifepoint gains and I think this may be related. I also get about 20 mana per tick, max. Kinda sucky.

Anybody able to give the dig on the importance of age?

I say just slap some age reduction to the distillate of ambrosia, it's already basically along those lines anyway, seems logical.

Kitano Posted 26 Sep 2005

I don't know if ambrosias are the best idea, since a lot of gen 10s scarf those things like candy. While I guess it's true that the oldest players are the ones who get to gen 10, we'd end up with players who have negative ages.

If anything, it should be able to be bought through oedits. Maybe you can get -10 age per qp. Maybe, since this is a fairly minor thing, you can get whatever age modifier you want for 5 qps. Whatever it is, I see that age is an example of what an apply is, but it's not on the list of things you can buy. A simple solution.

Finally, is it really even necessary? So you get slower ticks or less lps or whatever. If you've been playing this long, you're probably not a newbie so the game should be harder, right? Or, if you don't like that idea, you can just think that the game is easier at the beginning. Later on, instead of getting faster ticks, you get a LOT more hp back every tick with 25 con. I'm not sure what the other affects of age are, but I must say Kitano's getting on in years and it doesn't really bother me.

I think we should all be happy that at least the imms are nice enough to not have our characters die.

Another equaling factor was that imported characters retained their age. So that was part of the sacrifice for getting better stats on imported characters. I think Elric and Insight started off like 300 years old or something.

By the way, there is a temporary fountain of youth in Wyllowwood. The downside of it is that with age comes wisdom. So, when you drink the fountain, you temporarily lose wisdom (I forget the amount…I think like 10 or something).

Narcissus Posted 26 Sep 2005

Uh, yes the people that need age reduction, are also the ones that would be using the ambrosias. I really doubt it would be difficult to set a minimum age, and the rate of drop in age is pretty easily tunable so it doesn't get out of hand. 1 year per ambrosia is pretty slow, I don't imagine any gen 10's scarfing down ambrosias by the hundreds for example. And even if they were, the max of their hp/mana would be so reduclously high you wouldn't give a crap what your tics were anyway. I don't see it as much other than a non-issue.

Merriam Posted 27 Sep 2005

Actually I know of two people who have scarfed hundreds. Heheh. Funny.

Elric Posted 27 Sep 2005

I know I haven't been playing much lately but I've been reading the boards with interest; it's great to see some discussion!

Seeing as though I'm probably one of the only people that remembers that far back and was actually around for it, I'm wondering if anyone else knows where the term remort comes from?

That's right boys and girls! Uncle Elric is gonna enlighten you! Gather 'round! Way back when, before the time of remorts there were only the mortals and the immortals. Once you got to level 49 and negative experience you would be visited by one of the grimps and promoted to an immortal; at which point you could learn to build and do the things that immortals do. Or they had come up with this new thing; You could re-mortalize and pick up another class. That's where the term remort comes from.

Now with that in mind, if a remort is actually an immortal returned to earth, age should have absolutely ZERO bearing on them beyond a number. Now I am also aware that getting to remort status now is a shitload easier than it was to get to level 49 and negative exp way back in the day.

It's my proposition that once a character reaches the pinnacle of mortal existence (currently gen 10, here's hoping this doesn't stay that way forever) that they should become ageless. Think of it as a perq for reaching generation 10, level 49 and negative experience; at the moment you don't really get a lot once you hit the peak. I also think that with the ageless state they should get the benefit of the 'best' age bracket with regards to ticks and it stays that way forever. The age number can continue to tick over; it just ceases to have a bearing on the game.

I speak from personal experience when I say the ticks with an old character are really crappy; it's one of the reasons that Elric has been retired, albeit a minor one.

I just think it would be an awesome addition to the game.

Merriam Posted 27 Sep 2005

I was told age cannot be modified because its based solely on your pfile and therefore the creation date would have to be modified in order to modify your date. Perhaps we could change age to be calculated based upon, as Elric said, remortalization, and pause during cryogenic periods? Just an idea.

Also, how does the AGE modifier on equipment work? If I wear -20 of age equip on a 17 year old human, what happens?

Thanks,
