Zone of the Week?
Gneissic Posted 20 Jun 2006

As I was doing Wish's quest on cheese today, I noticed that my previous wanderings/exploration in different zones helped me greatly with the quest. Maybe we could have weekly or monthly (depending on how much time the imms have) quests on a zone that an Imm feels is underexplored? Like, mobs can give 2 times the normal experience, or items that load there are enhanced somehow? Or even something RPG-like, such as trying to find a secret item or room (quest mob gives reward in halflings for finding ring of sus, for example).

I'm just throwing ideas out; I don't have any definite thoughts. :/

Hmm… explorer rankings?? Each level = 1000 rooms explored… rankings explorers –> show's rankings of people's exploration rankings

Gneissic Posted 22 Jun 2006

Ooh! Quizzes on room descriptions! That ought to motivate people.

Those who fail to score 50 percent or higher will have their eq vaporized. :-P

I like the explorer idea a lot. Maybe you can earn certain prizes, or have explorer point dependent quests. Maybe they can be account wide too.

Wish Posted 22 Jun 2006

I like this idea Gneissic (go Brethren!).

As foreman, it is always difficult to decide what projects to focus on. Since Tempus is an endless project, there is always more to be done! Right now the limited Calidan building team is deeply focused on finishing up incomplete zones and revamping old ones.

However, I would be willing to sponsor mortal-run zone of the week quests. I would provide the compensation if a mortal would take up the challenge of setting it up each time around.

If you think you have the sizzle to come up with questions about different zones on a regular basis, contact me via mudmail and we'll work out a fun, equitable arrangement.

Tempus is great cause of people like you.

This sounds like a great idea! Maybe for the quizes we could just make it into a test you'd have to take when you remort. Of course then we'd have to place the remorter in a soundproof vault…a labyrinth of sorts perhaps. Nah…that'd never work. Seriously, though, I get really bored on the mud doing the same few zones that give me decent exp over and over and get strangely aroused when re-reading the areas list and realizing I didn't explore one of the places and want to help others enjoy in the vastness of the realm. The Wemic quest of Wish's was definately cool as I found the zone to be a lot larger and more interesting than I'd thought it was.
The End

Nevermore Posted 4 Jul 2006

I've tried doing the origional idea myself and people didn't participate… even with lavish prizes. So I quit running them… and quests all together.

I've also tried Wish's idea (see the quest board) and no one ever mailed in.

Okay… I have some crap written up and some ideas, but I'm too lazy to finish. Someone wanna get tagged? :P

Zone of the "week"(or two or three or whatever) "feature" could mean many things.. not just quests, but.. randomly changing certain aspects of a zone on a roving basis.. before returning it to "normal" stats, ie. perhaps the festival has a change of xp/gold/eq, while another week could see hobgoblins, or mog'ra, or grazz'zt, or level 1 hell, or wemic planes, or city of the ancients, or ogres (Go Chieftian go!! get busy - it's your birthday!! GO! GO!) (I run any zone I can find or find out about that is demographically relavent, or irrelavent - just to see if i can jive with it {sure insert dELiA*s joke here}).

Not just random stats for eq in a zone, but random xp/gold/type of stuff loaded (not on a calculated way - or code wise, but by someone actually changing what was possible.. based on human thought and reasoning)- mind you, for stuff that's out of the way, and not oftenly ventured to.. say if you stumbled upon a place that was written off by everyone as being non-jive-turkey, but you haven't been to, but thought the zone-descript sounded cash-money, and in giving it a whirl, you found out something sweet that the "masses" decided to piss on, leaving you among a few to benefit from the random changing (Bank error in your favor - Collect 200$).

Hopefully, I'm making some sort of sense in what I'm trying to convey, and not just rambling on like I normally feel like I'm doing.

Kitano Posted 17 Jul 2006

Yeah, I like that idea a lot, Caden. The only problem is I can see man power being short for something like that. Even though it probably wouldn't take more than an hour a week to do, that's an hour a week that imms probably won't have time to spend… Seems fun though, I can see running zones I wouldn't have ordinarily run if I could earn some extra money doing it, and then after the money's dried up, I still know the zone.
