Spam Leveling Policy Needs Change | |

Merriam | Posted 23 Jul 2005 I was in ECU today, leveling, as I had just remorted (please don't kill me now that I told you all), and a new player named Hoph was level 15 and exploring in ECU. I said hello, and we talked a bit. He said, "Do you want to group?" And I said, "No, I'm just trying to get some levels." And he said, "Well, I could help – I'm level 15!" in his best newbie voice. Being level 21, I figured this was okay, and double-checked on project, only to find out that this was strictly against policy, since I was remorted. I could give him uber-eq, or lots of gold, or tell him all the places to exploit, or walk along beside him and watch him kill the mobs I would have been killing for experience, but I couldn't help. If we're within a few levels, is this so bad? I mean, he was the one who asked to group, not knowing I was remorted, and I'm not so powerful that we would breeze through–I know I don't breeze through. What are your thoughts? I'm not saying I should be able to take him through La'morga and Drachs and KKI and rHTOM and vapor rats and ya ya ya, but isn't there a better way? Respectfully, Merriam |
Nevermore | Posted 23 Jul 2005 If you read the policy, it states:
If you are his level, and within a gen or 2 of him, you are "a group of their peers". Giving a newbie the benefit of your knowledge by showing them around and letting them group with your low level characters is encouraged. Naturally, everyone wants to take everything to the extreme and say you can't group with a newbie at all when that is definitely not the case. The Spam Leveling part of the Policy is intended for the protection of the newbies in that they don't get to a pkillable state before they are aware of what they are doing. It's also very disconcerting for a gen 1 or 2 character to ask what a scroll of identify does or why there are only skills and spells up to level 49. Don't deny a newbie his chance to learn. |
Merriam | Posted 23 Jul 2005 Thank you, Nevermore. I agree with you completely. Merriam |
