leveling impossible, learning curve absurd | |

Soulsip | Posted 24 Nov 2009 Case and point: spent a fortune (for a newbie) on brand-new bronze armor. still took a crap ton of damage from the kobolds that I should have been able to kill (I think?) at lvl 11 frustrated, i quaffed a recall potion that the guide gave me this time, instead of back to modrian, i went to the astral plane, got 2-shotted by slaads. had to pay the corpse guy basically ALL my money to retrieve my corpse most of my equipment was stolen from my corpse (I assume by the slaads) I have zero motivation to try to level further in Tempus. |
Azimuth | Posted 24 Nov 2009 Kobolds are a bit tougher on this mud than on others. I wouldn't try them until level 25 or so if you're just starting out. However, you absolutely shouldn't have gone to the astral from quaffing a recall potion. That should only happen when recalling across planes. (I'm assuming you weren't exploring the outer planes as a newbie) Let me know in game and I can fix you back up and we can figure out what went wrong. |
Squirrel | Posted 25 Nov 2009 Unfortunately a lot of the equipment from the vendors is not worth the cost. I'll mail you some enchanted equipment that'll be better than the stuff you can buy. If you have questions, MAIL SQUIRREL at the postmaster, and I'll respond to your question ASAP. I'll try to get back to your question as soon as possible. Also, let me know what class you are. |
Deneb | Posted 25 Nov 2009 kobolds is on a different plane from prime, so that needs to be fixed |
Azimuth | Posted 28 Nov 2009 You are correct sir. That's fixed. |
Wrath | Posted 29 Nov 2009 I think newbies should start off with a second class. The game has been so heavily modified to be more challenging for seasoned veterans that newbies don't have a snowball's chance in hell. The shops in Modrian should have much better equipment, more low level newbie zones should be easily accessible and worthwhile, and I should win the powerball lottery. |
Sekka | Posted 31 Dec 2009 I think I agree with Wrath… they should at least get a second class in the beginning. At least. All the other stuff he said I happen to agree with as well… but at least the class thing… I feel bad that that's what happened to Soulsip :( Poor guy… I was wondering what happened to him. |
Raznarl | Posted 12 Jan 2010 I'm going to have to disagree a with the second class thing, they should have to remort to get that. I haven't been to the newbie area in a while, but it wasn't bad before either. But after the newbie zone they are dropped into the fire for the most part. I like the idea of the eq in town maybe not going up in price but should be better, like maybe if they get the whole set they will have like -100 AC and 10 hit and 15 damroll along with a couple stats. I think that would be helpful. Take the descriptions of the areas command and put them into help files. Change the areas command to just show in rows and column's the zone name; help file for that zone;min gen; min level. Setup to organize by the lowest gen with All being at the top to the highest on the bottom. something like this minGen - Name - minLevel- helpfile The level range on some of them could be adjusted. In the helpfiles for some of the lower level zones which we need more of maybe add a path to that zone rather then 'can be found northeast of modrian, there is a lot of stuff north east…like shade which isn't really a place for kids. Thats my short novel, see what happens when i get tired… |
Deneb | Posted 30 Jan 2010 It'd be nice if vendor-bought armor gave ac-apply up the wazoo. Just make all the super ac-apply stuff non-enchantable and it'll still be balanced. This would make perusing shops across the MUD worthwhile and help newbies with mitigating damage as well as for non-newbies, too. For example: Object 'a bronze breast plate', Item type: ARMOR Item will give you following abilities: Item is: NOBITS Item is also: NOBITS Item is also: !MAG Weight: 40, Value: 3456, Rent: 600 Item material is bronze. AC-apply is 20 Blacksteel sells this piece. I only added the nomagic flag and altered the ac-apply. The weight was already 40 (a ridiculous number for its current protective qualities). |
Caden | Posted 31 Jan 2010 Just a random point of order before yall run off and storm the castle with personal greivences.. This post was made by a newbie. Who quit months ago, like after posting? 'Hit it with the rock!' People come and go, some bitch before they leave. Believe me, the game used to be much much much harder. When I first started playing I saved up for a month to get the desolation blade, only to have the dude hunt me down and take it. A lot of halfling ring-mail was sold for that… bitch&moan That game was hard, sure glad I didn't pull a Palin. :P The game was/is fun. -Caw |
Deneb | Posted 31 Jan 2010 You deserve a medal, Caden. You're a badass. Good job on enduring Tempus for more than a decade. I know you would like everyone to suffer as you have, but let's not aim for a MUD full of cynical war vets. People come and most go. It'd be nice to not lose any newbies to the tough luck attitude Tempus runs on. |
Caden | Posted 1 Feb 2010 Thanks for the medal, I'll have to pin it on my dress blues.. Getting beat at kobalds and realizing the zone was too tough at that level wasn't a problem, getting sent to astral while trying to recall was. Problem got fixed. I never said I wanted everyone to suffer, but this dude quit after getting partial looted in astral. I'm not aiming to fill the mud up with cynical anything. The whole thread started cause a newbie who tried to recall and went to astral died, got looted and quit, posted on here. Nice title to a post for someone who never made it into the proper 'teens'. Soulsip probably will never read this. People have always come, and most have always gone. I know a TON of ppl irl, literaly, probably more than, who played for a week, decided it wasn't their game for many reasons, and stopped. The ones that stayed, stuck around for many reasons. Dude got frusterated, I can understand frustration. It sounds like his whole entire gripe was the astral thing. That got fixed, end of thread. :P -Caw |
